In 2003, transcenDANCE Co-Founder Catherine Corral was directing a pilot teen dance troupe in City Heights with San Diego Youth and Community Services when she met Danah Fayman for the first time. They had an instant connection and a shared passion for bringing dance to youth as a vehicle for creative expression and community building. Two years later, Danah was instrumental in supporting Cat in making a big move to start a non-profit organization dedicated to this work. Their relationship grew and Danah provided the continued guidance and financial support to bring transcenDANCE Youth Arts Project to full form. Danah’s support for transcenDANCE along its ten year journey has been exceptional in that she shares the passion and vision for youth driven and community based programs and performance while fully trusting transcenDANCE to explore the process in their own unique way. Danah’s quiet but determined commitment to community-based, youth-driven arts programs serves as an inspiration to continue investing in and cultivating the artists of tomorrow.
